Games-HQ: Server alterations finalized

Games HeadQuarters3.rd of February 2010 - Games HeadQuarters announced: Server reinstallation successfully done.

The old operating system (openSuse 10.2) wasn't any longer supported by Novell and our ISP where neither making any security update for the services or the kernel itself for a while. It wasn't easy to get newer versions for it directly on the developers pages AND get them running on our server without killing a running service. To update an application on such an old system you need to download the sources of the application and compile it directly for your running system. We do not want to wait for the next hack to force the mandatory change...

The last complete installation was in November 2007 and the website and its services where down for that time. This time we have first setup a secondary server for testing and used it after all tests as a backup to host all sites and services for the time of reinstallation. This way the most of our members never saw the website down, each where able to use the services at any time. I have (different to the last update) not added but deleted a couple of services to get more CPU time for the used once. But we also have a change of the operatingsystem and for that reason open your eyes and post any issue in our forums so we can take care of and change things if needed.
